The Incredible Shrinking Orchestra Project

Following the immense success of our first Incredible Shrinking Orchestra Project—Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring—our second adventure in masterpiece minimizing is underway! This year's project is Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet

Join us for this unique, behind-the-scenes look into the "incredible shrinking" process. Our new crop of talented, student composers from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music have been busy refining their final drafts of this new chamber arrangement, which will be premiered at our end-of-season gala event on May 3, 2012!

This workshop is each ISOP composer's final chance to work directly with SFCO musicians to experiment with and refine their orchestrations. SFCO Music Director Ben Simon, Composer in Residence Gabriela Frank, and SFCM Head of Composition Dan Becker will lead the workshop.

The workshop runs 4:30 to 7:30. SFCO supporting members and their guests welcome to attend the full workshop or just its first or second half. Be sure to come in time for our Q&A session with Ben Simon and the young ISOP composers during the middle of the workshop (approximately 5:50 to 6:10).

Schedule

4:30 pm – Workshop begins.

5:50 pm – Break and Q&A with Ben Simon and the ISOP composers.

6:10 pm – Workshop resumes.

7:30 pm – Workshop ends.
